2022 Awards

Merton Cricket Club

12 Dec 2022

Last Friday was the occasion and the Clubhouse - the Merton Cathedral - was the venue, as the great and the good of Merton Cricket Club took their seats to learn who would take the prizes!

After many years of certain awards speaking for themselves, this year was not an easy one for the Committee to negotiate. There were several outstanding performances by our players, in both League and Friendly cricket, which made picking certain winners a difficult task.

The big winners on the night were Asrith Puttaganti, Rhys Marchant and Sujanan Romalojoseph, who each took home three awards. Asrith and Suj were also joint winners of the Friendly Player's Player of the Year, whilst Rhys won the League version by a comfortable margin. Also winning was Matt Kidd for the Surrey Slam T20 Most Valuable Player; the Merton Mammoths didn't have the campaign they wanted, but that didn't stop Matt putting in some excellent all-round performances.

Congratulations to all winners on the night, and also to everyone who had a fantastic season in 2022. Rhys Marchant, Salman Ahmed and Shash Kularatne had brilliant debut seasons for the club, and there were best-ever seasons with bat and ball for Imran Raja, Sujanan Romalojoseph, Sunil Mudaliar, Shabbir Ahmad, James Prebble, Hamza Rehman, Dave Barber, Dan Money and Andrew Thomson to name a few. New players slotted in as smoothly as a cashmere codpiece, including Ciaran Gilbride, Pieter Brits, Andrew MacDonald, Surjit Roy, Jamie Davidson, Harsh Mittal, Hardik Solanki, Max Nelson, Gary "The Square Leg Stockade" Paxton and Derek Sivyer, and we hope to see all of you back on the field in 2023!
